Welcome back to Term 3
We are back! It’s the beginning of Term 3 and we are ready and raring to go. Although all our students have been away for the Easter break, our building has been far from quiet as contractors continue to work on our new spaces. Some highlights from before Easter included opening our brand new Foyer lift which can take you from Old Bar up to the Foyer and Level 1, as well as a new ramp providing step free access to Old Bar from the retail floor.
And as ever there is so much more to come, as we start Phase 3 of our huge Union Upgrade project. This coming month we will see lots of activity happening in our building as the contractors finish their work and hand our spaces back to us. These spaces include Common Ground, Pyramid Theatre, the Foyer and the new Central Atrium – just check out our plan to find out more. But of course it doesn’t stop there. We have been working closely with a number of interior designers and architects – and soon all will be revealed when they start to transform our building into a vibrant hub of student activity and a space that truly reflects everything we have to offer.
We were also surprised to find something very special concealed behind our old Terrace kitchen – a Chilean Mural! This piece of political art has been unknowingly hidden in our building for the past 42 years and is thought to be one of the only ones remaining in the world today. I met with some members of the Leeds Chilean Community and the Chilean Community Association and was in awe of the significance of the mural we are now working to ensure we restore to its former glory.
There is set to be many dramatic changes taking place over the next month, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more updates on our progress.
