Seen our tins around campus?

Seen our degrees in a tin round campus? Some of our stock has got loose, trade them in for tasty chocolatey treats and chat to our TEFCO staff about how you could can our degrees. There’s 12 opportunities to win chocolate and the chance to change the future of higher education.

What’s going on?

The government is uncapping tuition fees. They’re set to rise from next year in line with inflation, so within 10 years we could see fees as high as £12,000 per year – and that’s not all. The government’s new gold-silver-bronze ranking system (it’s called the TEF… geddit?) will let top institutions charge even more. This will create an education ‘market’ with winners and losers, where the ‘losers’, who may be more reasonably priced for students, may be forced to shut down. We don’t think it’s fair that some people will be priced out of the education they deserve.

Do you want to ‘can’ off the shelf degrees?

So the government is making radical changes to education and students and staff set to pay a heavy price – it doesn’t sound great. But here in Leeds we want to do something about it – so what can you do?

Join us this Saturday November 19 in protesting against these reforms on NUS’s march in central London that aims to put a stop to the marketisation of higher education. The day out costs just £5 for Leeds Uni students, which covers the coach there and back and breakfast snacks on the bus – get your tickets here.
