Taking Shape.

It’s summer, and at a time when the University campus can seem quiet, we’re always as hard at work in LUU. The final areas of the main Union Upgrade refurbishment are still ongoing particularly around the South Extension, but we’re also seeing some areas really take shape ready for opening.

The hoardings which have hidden parts of the main foyer for almost a year are now down, and soon the furniture will be delivered to help complete the space. This will be the hub of our student help and support services, so we are excited to inject some colour into the space and begin to add in signage and design.

Beside the foyer the Central Atrium has now been revealed, bringing sunlight (on the nice days!) all the way through to the Union Square. The atrium will hold a piece of artwork to show the names of all the alumni who contributed to our project, right at the heart of our building.

Bayfields is back downstairs in the new Union Square.

The Union Square is now open, with the opticians Bayfields at the University back in their original

outlet, and our new partners Wok n Go, Humpit and Pamper Me currently putting final touches to the spaces. Common Ground (formerly Hidden Cafe) is also getting ready to open with some new furniture and a whole new menu. The rest of Common Ground is also just waiting for finishing touches before we have our new relaxed seating and meeting area (with some IT and games thrown in).

On Level 1 and Level 2 of the Union you will also find further upgrades happening. All of our meeting rooms are currently received a facelift with our new brand colours. New AV equipment and furniture will really improve these spaces ready for use in September.

Thank you for your support for a long project. We are planning an “Open House” event to showcase all the refurbished areas (and some new services) from 12pm on September 6th. If you have been following our project and would like join us at that event then email e.m.dejong@leeds.ac.uk.
