New Theatre and Bar Space Named!

As the construction work continues to build and refurbish our spaces, the Board last week agreed to re-name the former Mine bar and the Raven Theatre in preparation for the re-opening. These spaces will be called Pyramid and the Pyramid Theatre, reflecting the architecture and adjacency of the two areas that will work together as a single venue.

Thousands of students and family members have been celebrating graduations during July and we have worked hard in LUU to maintain great service for all our visitors. Some new hoardings have gone up behind the scenes as we start to demolish further areas ahead of refurbishment. The progress around the building can be seen in the photos below, which reveal the scale of work being undertaken.

By the end of July, we are planning for the temporary closure of the Common Room, Hidden Café, Univision and Joblink. Univision will be temporarily located in the old Lounge area, continuing to operate as normal during next term and ready for a newly fitted out space in our new Market Square. Joblink will also be relocating for next term and will operate from the main Foyer where students will find it easy to access. In addition, our Royal Mail Post Box should soon be relocated just inside the Refectory entrance lobby.

However, the building isn’t the only thing getting upgraded in LUU at the moment. Our other major project underway is to transform our website and infrastructure to deliver an improved digital experience for students. This includes the creation of a brand new web platform, as well as the commissioning of specific modules which could give us more efficient and connected services. The visual branding of the Union connects both of these key projects and you will see this emerge very soon!

Please continue to send any questions or comments on the Union Upgrade project via this website and enjoy your summer wherever you are.
