Get ready for lots of exciting changes…

We’re nearly at the end of February and fast approaching Spring, and with the new season brings lots of exciting activity in our building. Since the Christmas break we’ve seen progress in a multitude of areas including finishing the Terrace kitchen and being able to serve our brand new pizzas (special Exec meals available!) as well as launching the union’s first ever LGBTQ+ club night in Pyramid…but it doesn’t stop there. Over the coming months you will get to see some dramatic changes happening to our building as we work to create more brand new spaces for our members to enjoy.

Arguably the most exciting space to come is our new cafe and social area, which I’m pleased to announce, after months of consultation and feedback, will be called Common Ground. This space will be located just off the new Union Square and is set to include zoned areas to provide students with a café counter and eatery, a games area and a perfect place to study and socialise. I’m really looking forward to watching this area take shape and hope you are too!

Closer to the Easter period, you’ll start to see another big change within our Foyer as it expands to include an all-encompassing Helpdesk. Our central support services, such as Student Advice and Joblink will then be accessed from this area and we expect it to be a hub of activity as everyone gets used to the changes. In order to facilitate the upgrade in the Foyer, offices and meeting rooms will also be built, as well as a lift and a modern link bridge across the new central atrium. However unfortunately in order to do this, we have had to close off a large part of the space. We are working to ensure all our members are kept up to date with the changes happening to our building so we are now using #accessibleluu on twitter to communicate any issues.

Have a great time over the next month as you’re starting to think of some great concoctions for Pancake Day which is right around the corner on 28th February. Why not tweet your favourites to @LeedsUniUnion and show off your designs!

Aidan
